Call For Abstracts

Online submissions are now closed. If you have a later submission request, please email sesoc@confer.co.nz for consideration. 

The SESOC 2023 organising committee invite you to submit an abstract.

There are three options available when submitting an abstract:

  • An abstract for the traditional 20-minute presentation sessions - Full paper submission will be requested if abstract is accepted
  • An abstract for the ‘Lightning Talk’ session, 5-minute presentation maximum – No full paper required
  • An abstract for the Emerging Structural Engineers sessions, 15-minute presentation sessions - Full paper submission required if abstract is accepted (Read more about the ESE Conference Pathway)

Authors should include a short paragraph detailing career history and a written commitment to personally attend and present the paper at the conference, if the paper or presentation is accepted.

Format of submission

  • Abstracts to be submitted in English
  • Submissions should be no more than 250 words
    • Lightning Talk submission no more than 100 words
  • You will be required to enter in the author/co-authors and affiliations separately during the submission process
  • You will be required to enter a bio/career history for the Presenting Author (max. 100 words)
  • If you are submitting on behalf of the Presenter/s, please have their email address/s ready to include in the submission

IMPORTANT: Once you have completed your submission, you will receive a confirmation email. If you do not receive this confirmation email, we have NOT received your submission. Please remember to check your spam/junk folders and contact the conference organisers should you need assistance at sesoc@confer.co.nz.

Review and Notification to Authors

All completed submissions will be reviewed. Authors will be notified by 14 March 2023 regarding acceptance of their abstract. Full paper submissions will be requested for Traditional Technical and Emerging Structural Engineers accepted abstracts, these will be due by 22 May 2023. Thereafter you will be advised regarding the final allocation of your presentation in the programme.

Registration

All presenters are required to register and pay the conference registration fee in order to be included in the programme and to present in person at the event. Registration and payment of registration fee by presenters of accepted abstracts must be completed by no later than 21 May 2023

Publication

By submitting an abstract/paper, authors agree to the publication of chosen abstracts/papers on the conference mobile app and conference proceedings or similar by SESOC.

Presentation

Accepted oral presentations will be included within topical sessions of the official Conference programme. Posters will be on display throughout the conference and further details will be advised with the confirmation email.

ESE Paper Stream

As in previous years, an ‘Emerging Structural Engineers Stream’ will be included within the Conference program. This parallel paper stream provides space for early career engineers to share a 15-minute presentation based on their experience. This could include, but is not limited to, project-based learning, learning experiences in site monitoring, construction processes, buildability, analysis and design, professionalism, ethics and sustainable design.
